it snows in australia?

Living in Europe, people often baulk at the idea of Australia having rideable snowfields. It doesn't help matters when one goes on to explain that they're called "The Snowy Mountains"... Creative bunch of explorers... Anyway, a few years ago I was lucky enough to score a decent dump of fresh schnee and blue skies while on a weeks holiday in Perisher. I shot this panorama an hour before the lifts opened from Oldina, a lodge run by a good friend, the always awesome Mick Hoetzer.
The Alps it is not. Unique, beautiful and shredable, it most certainly is.

alles gut zum geburstag schatzi...

My girl Lucy turns 25 today. So far there's been presents of all sorts from all around the world, a dreamy cooked breakfast, bbq chicken, wine and tunes in the park, and with a Halloween themed party this eve, the fun is just beginning... Luckily she's all sorts of awesome and deserves every bit of it... Happy days! x

three six six thursdays... spanglish

30 Three Six Six is a project that began back in 2008 when I spent my 30th birthday year taking at least one photo every day. As I mentioned earlier on the blog, I'll be posting a pic every Thursday from the project to help me get a flow going!
This week's pic is from November 26, 2008 on my virgin trip to the Canaries. On arrival, our crew was enthusiastic about trying to learn some of the local language. Thankfully our pocket sized phrasebook had all bases covered...

let's boogie...

Just received a copy of Le Boogie Issue 5 in the post and was pleasantly surprised to find a portrait I shot of new IBA World Champ Amaury Lavernhe in there. Good times! I like Amaury for a few reasons...
1. He's been steadily ripping for the past few years all over the world.
2. He's from Reunion Island; one of my favourite places on the planet.
3. He's a humble guy who straight up loves bodyboarding.
Big ups Amaury, see you in the islands in December!

lakes and leaves...

M'lady and I took a trip out to Schlachtensee (just outside of Berlin) today, for a stroll around the lake in the leaves. The weather was incredible and autumn colours were in full effect. Even though it's already snowing in Austria, I won't be complaining if this season sticks around a little longer...

autumn shred...

It takes a little longer to get warmed up at this time of year, but one has to make the most of the sun while it's still shining! Headed out for a day o shredding with NAW a little while back. Mini ramps are always a blast. I'm looking forward to having one in my backyard one day... When i have a backyard... Till then, the streets are just fine.

So after far too long, I finally have a website up and running.
I'm super stoked on how it's turned out. Big thanks to Sam Gieben for the design, and to everyone involved for the inspiration. Have a look around, drop me a line to let me know your thoughts and feel free to re-post the link all over the interweb... Woop!

back to the islands...

My excitement levels have been steadily building with the approach of the annual Canarian migration. I've spent the last two Decembers in this awe inspiring group of islands off the north-west coast of Africa. Amazingly affable local peeps, warm water and world class waves are but just a few of the lures drawing me back each year. Hasta luego!

back on the blog - three six six thursdays...

With my website just about ready to launch, I thought it was about time I jumped back online and started to blog more regularly.
30 Three Six Six is a project that began back in 2008 when I spent my 30th birthday year taking at least one photo every day. I hope to publish the results, both photographic and written in a hard bound book by early 2011, though there's still a lot of work to do, particularly since I shot the first 4 months of the year on film. Anyway, I'll be posting a pic every Thursday from the project to help get a flow going!
Today is my friend Gemma's birthday and in 2008 on the same day, we shot some portraits in our back garden for the project. Happy birthday Gem! Hope you have an ace one... x
