My lovely lady Lucy surprised me for my birthday this year, with a trip to Gdansk, on the Baltic Sea, in Poland. We didn't really know what to expect of the sleepy seaside town but in the end it was a fun, frozen weekend of exploration and eating!
It really is a beautiful region and despite the -15 degree temperatures, we cruised about mostly on foot, though generally from coffee shop to restaurant to bar and so forth. Highlights included the snowy seaside pier in Sopot, just north of Gdansk and it's numerous bars offering £1 pints and mulled beer of all things, the huge brick church in the old town (largest in the world apparently),
Zubrowka buffalo grass vodka, trying traditional Polish dumplings, and battling to see who could make the most of our minimal local language knowledge.
Jehn koo yah to Hotel Artus for our amazing accommodations, Jasper our friendly airport transfer tour guide and to the city of Gdansk for its frozen friendliness!
Main street through the old town...
Pretty inside and out...
Even the pigeons were cold...
