i'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to gdansk... in colour...

My lovely lady Lucy surprised me for my birthday this year, with a trip to Gdansk, on the Baltic Sea, in Poland. We didn't really know what to expect of the sleepy seaside town but in the end it was a fun, frozen weekend of exploration and eating!
It really is a beautiful region and despite the -15 degree temperatures, we cruised about mostly on foot, though generally from coffee shop to restaurant to bar and so forth. Highlights included the snowy seaside pier in Sopot, just north of Gdansk and it's numerous bars offering £1 pints and mulled beer of all things, the huge brick church in the old town (largest in the world apparently), Zubrowka buffalo grass vodka, trying traditional Polish dumplings, and battling to see who could make the most of our minimal local language knowledge.
Jehn koo yah to Hotel Artus for our amazing accommodations, Jasper our friendly airport transfer tour guide and to the city of Gdansk for its frozen friendliness!

Even the pigeons were cold...

Warmth was wonderful...
Is it a watch? Is it a pen? Nope it's a camera...

river riding 2012...

So in May 2012, a group of twelve of us (including the original awesome fivesome from 2008) will be following a part of the Danube, from Passau in Germany, to Vienna in Austria! It's going to be a journey of about 320km over 8 days of riding, and plenty of exploring along the way!
Having spent a good bit of time in Niederoesterreich, I'm really looking forward to the Wachau wine region as well as the steins and sausages of Munich, and the adventure of cycling and camping combined!
Here's a few old schwarz weiss images from times past on the Danube.
