How incomplete my life would be without op shops... Giving new life to others unwanted goods and supporting a charity at the same time...

Ever since my visit to Copenhagen in the summer, I've been increasingly taken with the idea of learning more about natural surroundings and foraging for local produce to incorporate into my cooking (cheers Scotty!) and i think I may have found the book to help me do it... 

An amazing, enlightening, informative read, it's been rad to learn more about British countryside and hopefully I can put this new knowledge and skill set to use! Look out 'shrooms!

More than halfway through the year and I'm already looking forward to the festive season, especially if NYE turns out to be anything like last year. A decadent evening long feast, fine drinks, fine friends, board games, lanterns, hide and seek and a midnight swim in the icy waters of Porthgwarra... Thanks for having us Mama Ley, twas a night to remember...

The next day brought some hazy heads, but twas nothing a pub lunch and a fresh stroll along the Cornish coast couldn't fix... A belated cheers to 2011 and bring on the rest of 2012! x

copenhagen detour... part two

It's awesome to see how involved and entwined with the city, and their work within (Scoot works at a restaurant called AOC, Sofia at NOMA), both Scott and Sofia have become. Uber keen cyclists whose lives revolve around good food and drink in a nutshell! Our evening meal of creamy mushroom pasta complimented with a tasty home brewed beer/fresh elderflower cordial was a testament to that... Deliciousness!

Birthday bike!

The next day Scotty and I headed out to the edge of the city limits for some bike adventuring and some mushroom foraging... Despite it being early in the season for 'shrooms, we came across a few patches of chanterelles in the forests surrounding Holte, before making our way through fields and paths to the coast and back into the city. 

Later that night we cruised a couple o bars, one a tasty (though somewhat pretentious) brewery called Mikkeller, the other, an awesome late night dive bar called The Moose (as if it's going to have a website) Both equally entertaining for very different reasons... Cheers tour guide!

down the danube part 9... krems to tulln

Bit of a slow day on the photographic front between Krems and Tulln... The cycling was as enjoyable as ever and the weather simply sensational... We spent the best part of the evening relaxing with a few drinks beside our campsite before heading into Tulln in search of a restaurant offering "Spargelzeit" (Asparagus time!) Though not everyone embraced the asparagus, it was an amazing Austrian meal; some Tiroler Groestl, some spargel and some spaetzl, alongside Gruner Veltliner and Weissbier... Thank you Tulln!

down the danube part 8... wachau wonder

Each day of our travels seemed to bring new, unexpected adventures but, for me at least, today was always going to be a highlight. I'd visited the Wachau before, during my time living in Austria, and i knew its combination of vineyards and vistas would make for an unforgettable part of the journey.

What I didn't for see was being welcomed into a village party for the opening of a local bank and being invited on a private tour of the church tower by the towns preist. Blessed...

Amazing weather, food and wine and one of the most memorable days of our holiday...
