Had a brief respite from work the week before last and took the opportunity to visit the parents in their always idyllic home in Ettalong Beach... Sandy seaside walks with Ma, Pa and Dana dog and balmy bbq evenings with a couple o glasses of red...

Also finally had the opportunity to present Mama with her belated birthday present, a commissioned portrait of the family pet, care of talented artist and friend, Grant Molony.

Shaun Pyne had a good honest crack at the top spot at this years pumping Shark Island Challenge. He was on fire through both rounds and the final, but lost out by the narrowest of margins in the end to Mitch Rawlins... Here's his wave o the day from the wash through filled day before the comp... So after many attempts at repair, I finally had to accept, earlier this year, that my beloved Hasselblad Xpan is dead... Final autopsy revealed irreparable water damage... Sad times...

Rather than shell out for a new body, i decided to try a cheaper, Russian alternative (what seems to be becoming a more and more common solution for me) Presenting the Horizon 202!

He's a strange and wily beast, but takes some pretty rad panoramic images, given the right conditions!

A trip out to Cape Solander during the 2016 Shark Island Challenge waiting period brought back a flood of fond memories recently. Chasing and shooting waves out near Kurnell at Fear and De Niros back in the day... It's a crazy place to watch the ocean when there's a solid swell running... Big ups for a rad day in and out the ocean Jase!

This may look like a relaxing, picturesque summer afternoon, but what's not shown is the hour plus drive to cover 5km and the hour plus wait for a schnitzel in the local RSL in an attempt to avoid the same traffic on the return journey... Never again...
